Swiss Sennenhund: All-Around Working Dogs

[Go to Madar Home Page]

We have two Entlebucher Mountain Dogs and we had one Bernese Mountain Dog (also called Sennenhund), all full of fun, play, and energy. You have to work these guys if your home and sanity are to survive! On these pages you can see our dogs at work and play. Below is our portrait of Lucky, AKA Guthrie v. Frischborn, JHD, FDX, CGC, our (then) 6-year-old Entlebucher, and Jasper, AKA Snobear's Black Jack Jasper,CD, NDD, CGC, our 7-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. The portrait was taken on Independence Day, July 2000. Jasper and Lucky will always be in our hearts and on these pages.

We lost Jasper to cancer in October 2000. We lost Lucky suddenly and tragically in November 2002, when he ate 5 ounces of raisins. We did not know raisins are poisonous to dogs. (For more on raisin and grape poison, visit this ASPCA Poison Control link.) Lucky was a rescue (rehomed) dog. He came into our lives untrained when he was nearly six years old, and he quickly won our hearts with his lust for life and love. He was with us less than three years, and every day he brought us thrills and joy. We are trying to inform as many people as possible about raisins so no one else loses their best friend through ignorance.
